Rochester Artist Cassandra Buck presents a new series of large-scale mixed media works which explore new ways to visually communicate the artist’s personal experience as a mother, a woman, and to connect with her femininity as an artist.
Artist Statement:
My work has always focused on two things: expression and the feminine. I am constantly striving to discover how color, shape, and line can evoke feelings and ideas that we are unable to articulate. I am currently reclaiming my feminine artistic voice without shame. Reclamation is the name I have given to my current work. Each series within this reclamation dives into and breaks down societal and gender constructs. I have named these pieces the “Motherhood Series”. Working mothers are constantly moving, we never let ourselves breathe, we never let ourselves just be. The first layer of acrylic paint is my chaos, my constant motion, my drive to always be something to someone. The embroidered spaces between this are my small bits of solace, my meditation, my self preservation.
